Leaving the Katy trail to rejoin Route 66 in Joplin MO, required making up the ca 130 trip from the network of Missouri state and country roads, payed and un.

Girls Montrose high school team won the 2010 Missouri state basketball championship going 31-0, undefeated for the season with eight (8!) players. Truly amazing. I wonder what became of them?
One of the downsides of Google map routes for biking is that it takes you down forsaken potted rough gravel roads. On of the upsides is that those roads lead to interesting places one would never otherwise see, like (appropriately named) Rockville MO below:
Lesson learned in MO: when Google says to take a road other than a major state highway, or a lettered road such as “M”or “C,” ignore that instruction or you will be going 5 mph on terrible gravel. Ultimately, Google did get me to a nice day’s end, Nevada MO.
